Open bays and no front posts: what a cantilever shade gives you

Cantilever Car Parking Shades · Umbrella Parking Shades

A cantilever shade is simple to picture: a steel arm comes out from the top of each column and reaches over your parking bay, and the fabric is stretched across the arms. Nothing stands at the front of the bay.

For you, that means no posts to hit, no scratched doors or bumpers, and no bent columns to repair. Because all the load sits on one side, we take the engineering seriously: our team sizes the column, the arm and the deep moment foundation for your exact overhang and city. That is what keeps your roof steady and your footings level for years, and it is why we back the steel with a 10-year warranty.

02

What you get with Umbrella Parking Shades

  • Free site visit: we measure your bays, check for buried cables and pipes, and advise on the right cantilever type and fabric.

  • Our own workshop and crews: columns and arms are welded and coated in our Dammam workshop and installed by our own teams, with no subcontractors.
  • Built for Saudi weather: engineered for SBC 301 wind loads, Shamal winds, sand and heat; hot-dip galvanised steel for coastal cities.
  • Real warranty: 10 years on the steel structure and 5–10 years on the fabric.
  • Permit support: where your site needs a Balady carport permit, we prepare the shade drawings and work with a licensed engineering office to file it.
  • Care after handover: annual maintenance plans, plus re-tensioning and fabric replacement when you need it.

Pick the cantilever type that fits your car park

We build four versions, and during your site visit we tell you which one saves you the most columns and money

Single cantilever

Columns stand along one side, usually against a wall or fence, and the arms reach over one row of bays. You get a neat, post-free driveway or frontage, ideal for villas, boundary rows and offices. Single cantilever car parking shades.

Double cantilever (Y-type)

One column line carries arms on both sides and covers two rows of cars parked back to back. You need half the columns, which keeps a large car park open and lowers the cost per bay. Double cantilever car parking shades.

T cantilever

A central column carries a balanced crossbeam, perfect for island and median rows where you want shade on both sides from a single post. T cantilever car parking shades.

Cobra

A curved arm gives your entrance a sweeping, sculptural roof, the look we delivered for Lina Municipality across 300+ cars. Cobra car parking shades.

04

Why our clients choose a cantilever design

  • No front columns: fewer scrapes, fewer damaged posts and easier parking for every driver.
  • More usable space: aisles and kerbs in front of the bays stay free.
  • A modern look: a floating roof looks lighter and more premium than rows of posts.

What we tell you honestly

  • A cantilever needs heavier steel and bigger footings, so it usually costs somewhat more per bay than a pyramid shade.
  • Bigger footings need more care around buried services, which is why our survey checks them first.
  • Very deep bays may be better served by a double or T version, and we will say so.

If cost per bay matters most and posts at the front are fine for you, we will also price a pyramid shade from our types of car parking shades range so you can compare.

Cantilever shades designed for your city and your site

Cantilever shades suit car parks where cars come and go all day: hospital visitor parking, office and bank staff car parks, mall perimeters, schools, mosques and industrial gatehouses.

We also design for your climate. In Dammam, Al Khobar and Jubail, humid coastal air rusts bare steel, so we recommend hot-dip galvanised columns. In Riyadh we plan for extreme heat and dust storms with deeper footings and breathable HDPE. In Jeddah and Yanbu, where salt in the air attacks bolts and welds, we give coatings and fixings extra attention. You get a shade made for where you are, not a generic kit.

06

How we handle your project from survey to handover

  1. Free survey: we visit, measure the bays, locate cables and pipes, check the surface and note wind exposure.
  2. Design and quotation: our engineers choose the overhang, arm profile and column spacing and size the column, arm and moment foundation. You receive a layout drawing and a written quotation to approve.
  3. Fabrication in Dammam: columns and arms are welded and coated in our own workshop under our quality control; fabric is cut to your exact bay size.
  4. Installation by our crews: we cast the footings with anchor bolts set by template, let them cure (about 7 days on larger jobs), erect and level the steel, then fit and tension the fabric.
  5. Handover: we walk the site with you and explain the warranty and maintenance options.

A villa carport takes 1–2 days on site; a car park of 10–20 bays takes about 2–4 weeks.

Fabric and colour that keep your cars cooler

We help you choose the fabric that suits your site and budget. HDPE knitted fabric, our most economical option, breathes, lets some wind through and blocks up to 95% of UV, so it is a smart choice for long rows on hot inland sites. PVC-coated polyester costs more than HDPE but is waterproof and blocks almost all direct sun, ideal for hospital drop-offs and offices; we size the steel for its full wind load. PTFE is our premium option for architectural projects and is quoted per project. You choose from 12 colours: lighter tones reflect more heat, mid-tones hide dust.

08

Simple care that keeps your shade like new

  • After strong winds, check the fabric tension; a loose panel flaps more on a cantilever because the front edge is free.
  • Once a year, look at the base plates and anchor bolts for rust, especially in coastal cities.
  • Wash off sand with water and mild soap; never use solvents on PVC.

Prefer not to think about it? Our annual maintenance plans cover re-tensioning, cleaning, repairs and, when the time comes, fabric replacement.

What sets the price of your cantilever shade

Cantilever Car Parking Shades · Umbrella Parking Shades

Your written quotation is based on these points, and we explain each one

  • Overhang and bay depth: a longer arm needs a bigger column, a heavier arm and a larger footing.
  • Version: a double or T cantilever covers more cars per column, which can lower your cost per bay on large sites.
  • Fabric: HDPE is the most economical, PVC costs more but sheds rain, and PTFE is the premium choice.
  • Steel finish: hot-dip galvanising costs more than painted mild steel but protects you against coastal rust.
  • Ground conditions: cutting asphalt, moving services or poor soil add foundation work.
  • Quantity and location: larger car parks get volume pricing; remote or restricted sites add time.

FAQ

Cantilever Car Parking Shades: frequently asked questions

Our single-sided arms normally cover one car length, matching our standard 6.0 m bay. We can reach further, but the steel and footing grow quickly with every extra metre, so for deeper areas we usually recommend a double or T cantilever to save you money.

All the load goes through one line of columns instead of several posts, so we use larger steel sections and a deeper moment foundation to stop the structure tipping. The exact difference depends on your overhang, fabric and number of bays, and you see it in your written quotation after the free site survey. What you get for that is bays with no front columns and far fewer parking knocks.

Yes. We cut the asphalt at each column position, cast the footing and reinstate the surface around the base plate. Our survey checks for buried cables and pipes first, because cantilever footings are larger than those of post-supported shades.

Yes. We engineer the column, arm and footing for SBC 301 wind loads and Shamal winds, and tension the fabric so it does not flap. Most problems we see on other sites come from loose fabric or items hung from the arms, which is why our maintenance plans include re-tensioning.

Sometimes. A wall-mounted arm needs a structural wall or beam strong enough to take the bending force; most block boundary walls cannot. We check your wall during the free site visit and recommend free-standing columns if it is not suitable.

We set the column spacing during design, based on the arm size, fabric and wind exposure. A common layout has one column for every one or two bays. Fewer columns mean heavier arms and footings, so we balance column count against steel cost and show you the best option in your quotation.
